The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a safety professional to conduct inspections, enforce health and safety standards, and manage safety training across counties. The role involves unannounced work zone checks, PPE enforcement, and documentation accuracy.

Responsibilities include investigating incidents, maintaining OSHA records, CDL oversight, monthly safety meetings, and risk management support. Strong regulatory knowledge and field readiness are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 2 years of experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs.
• A bachelor’s degree in public health or related field may substitute for the required work experience.
• A valid Class A CDL is required within 6 months of placement.

Responsabilités

• Performs periodic inspections of shop, yard, building, work zone, equipment and environment to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Conducts unannounced SCDOT Work Zone inspections to verify proper compliance and guidelines are met.
• Ensures PPE use and on-site documentation are properly completed.
• Investigates injuries and accidents to determine cause and prevention measures.
• Prepares OSHA 300/300 logs and other risk management data entries.
• Monitors CDL operations for regulatory compliance.
• Assists with CDL training in counties as required.
• Conducts monthly safety meetings and distributes material in a timely manner.
• Advises leadership on uncorrected safety deficiencies and suggests corrections.
• Performs Drug and Alcohol Program support (post-accident, pre-employment, random).
• Serves as witness in hearings as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
