Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking an Occupational Safety Inspector to conduct periodic inspections of shop facilities, yards, and work zones in Anderson County. You will ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations and lead safety training programs for staff.

You will investigate injuries and accidents, prepare required documentation, monitor CDL compliance, and participate in risk management processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; two years of experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene.
• Bachelor's degree in public health or related field may substitute for required work experience.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License required (must obtain within six months).

Responsibilities

• Perform periodic safety inspections of shop, yard, buildings, work zones and equipment to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Conduct unannounced work zone inspections per SCDOT Work Zone Maintenance Manual and MUTCD, ensuring PPE and documentation are correct.
• Instruct and facilitate safety training (CPR/First Aid, Flagger, Fall Protection, Excavation and Trenching, etc.).
• Investigate injuries and vehicle/equipment accidents; recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare OSHA 300/300 logs and other Risk Management data entry; monitor CDL operations for regulatory compliance.
• Assist with CDL training across Anderson County and other districts as needed.
• Lead monthly safety meetings; advise leadership on uncorrected deficiencies and corrective actions.
• Support Drug and Alcohol Program activities (post-accident, pre-employment, random testing).
• Provide support as witness in hearings and perform related duties as assigned.
