OSH Director of Program Planning, Bureau of School Health

Join to apply for the OSH Director of Program Planning, Bureau of School Health role at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) oversees programs, policies, and services supporting physical and socio-emotional health, primary and reproductive health, health equity, social justice, safety, and well-being of NYC families and children. It includes the Bureau of Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Office of School Health, and the Bureau of Administration. The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) and DOHMH, responsible for designing, providing, and evaluating clinical and public health services in NYC public schools for over one million students. Services include case management of chronic health issues, preventive health screenings, urgent care, medication administration, counseling, health education, referrals, and ongoing treatment support.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To:

  • Tracking metrics and collaborating with program leadership to meet goals, including leading bi-annual program reporting.
  • Leading OSH policy work, including analysis, responding to legislation, supporting policy proposals, and advancing OSH priorities. Providing analytic support for the Assistant Commissioner and evaluation for finance and operations.
  • Supporting quality assurance protocols to measure program impact.
  • Leading strategic planning for OSH, setting annual goals and metrics aligned with NYCPS and DOHMH priorities.
  • Reviewing and revising grant applications and liaising with DFCH and the Fund for Public Health.
  • Providing management oversight, including supervising the Executive Assistant and Special Projects Coordinator.
  • Representing the Assistant Commissioner in meetings and serving as an advisor.
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Assistant Commissioner.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing complex programs involving multiple partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in quality assurance and program evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For Level I: A master's degree in a relevant field of physical, biological, environmental sciences, or public health from an accredited college or university.

To qualify for Level II and above, candidates need:

  • A doctorate in a relevant field and one year of supervisory or research experience, or
  • A master's degree with three years of full-time research experience, or
  • Equivalent education and experience, with at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience.
