Responsibilities

The Office of School Health (OSH) promotes the health of 1.3 million school-aged children across approximately 1,800 schools in NYC through public health initiatives, case management, education, and clinical services. For more details, refer to the American Academy of Pediatrics' Policy Statement:

Duties Will Include But Not Limited To
  • Work within mandates, policies, and protocols of the Office of School Health.
  • Attend to health needs and medical issues of students in a designated school community.
  • Maintain accurate student health records using the Automated Student Health Record (ASHR).
  • Complete medical accommodation reviews efficiently, using clinical judgment and coordinating services when appropriate.
  • Perform mandated physical examinations (New Admission Exams, Sports Physicals, Working Paper Physicals).
  • Participate in meetings concerning student medical needs.
  • Implement initiatives promoting positive health behaviors and develop school health education and prevention programs.
  • Provide clinical assistance during environmental or communicable disease occurrences.
  • Serve as a liaison with community health providers on medical issues affecting school performance.
  • Support medical initiatives like Asthma, Reproductive Health, Obesity, and Diabetes programs.
  • Maintain good public relations and communicate effectively within the school and community organizations.
  • Stay updated on health policies and emerging research related to school health.
  • Participate in OSH research activities and attend mandated department and program meetings, including CME classes.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong clinical pediatric experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
