Job Duties:

The Office for Students with Disabilities’ Peer Advisor Program is a collaborative process that targets students with disabilities and offers supports by improving their academic and everyday self-management skills. Peer Advisors must attend a mandatory training in order to be hired and meet the minimum requirements as listed below. The training will include information about disabilities and BASIS/BOOST Peer Advisor overview along with tools, techniques, and strategies to aid students with time-management, organization, and study skills. Additional training will be provided to Peer Advisors interested in participating with the BASIS (Boro Autism Support Initiative for Success) Peer Advising program.

We are seeking students who are responsible, dependable, and respectful of all communities within PennWest-Edinboro. These students must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, work well in 1:1 situations, and convey a professional and mature approach to their work. Peer Advisors will be paid for training.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Meet with assigned student(s) and assist in developing an individualized, collaborative process to improve academic success.
  2. Aid student(s) in identifying barriers to advance academic progress and develop time-management skills.
  3. Guide with research and study skills.
  4. Provide structure and establish a consistent schedule for weekly contact.
  5. Assist students to develop a plan toward setting academic goals.
  6. Assess and review student(s) progress in achieving individual goals.
  7. Provide organizational skills to develop academic structure.
  8. Refer student(s) to campus resources as needed.
  9. Complete and submit weekly progress reports to supervisors.
  10. Attend monthly virtual group review and training sessions.
  11. Model appropriate academic, daily living skill management, and virtual etiquette.
  12. Communicate with supervisors regarding progress and areas of concern.
Qualifications:
  1. Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status and a full-time Edinboro student.
  2. Have a cumulative QPA of 3.0 or better.
  3. Be available and flexible to meet with assigned student(s).
  4. Commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week or average of 8-10 hours a week.
