Job summary

Holyoke Medical Center is seeking a Medical or Clinical Assistant for the Orthopedics & Sports Center Practice. Duties include chart review, patient rooming, vitals, EMR documentation, and assisting physicians during exams.

Requires high school diploma and MA-related certification eligibility; EMT or CNA MA certifications preferred. Opportunity includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus for full-time Certified Medical Assistants with at least two years of experience, plus competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be high school graduate or equivalent and able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant program with ABHES or CAAHEP accreditation; must be registered/certified within six months with one of: RMA/AMT, CMA/AAMA, or CCMA/NHA.
• Must hold EMT certification in Massachusetts or CNA certification in Massachusetts as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare patient charts by verifying EMR documentation, lab results, consultation reports, and visit information before appointments.
• Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medications, allergies, and other required information in the EMR.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures with professional, compassionate communication and address patient questions or delays.
• Assist physicians and providers during examinations and clinical procedures, including administering injections and delegated tasks.
• Process prescription refill requests and route medication requests to providers for approval.
• Coordinate patient follow-up care: scheduling, referrals, testing, and patient education resources.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records and timely documentation via EMR messaging.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms; sterilize or transport instruments; ensure supplies and equipment are available.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent

ABHES/CAAHEP Medical Assistant accreditation

RMA/AMT, CMA/AAMA, or CCMA/NHA certification eligibility within 6 months

Massachusetts EMT certification

Massachusetts CNA certification
