Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manages advanced practitioner resources and works with the Trauma Program Manager and Orthopedic Trauma Medical Director on tasks and responsibilities as appropriate to achieve the Orthopedic Trauma advanced practitioner team’s scope and objectives. Provides nursing and medical services to assigned patients according to the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners as identified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners OR as a Physician Assistant provides primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of the Orthopedic Trauma Medical Director. In addition to diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, the Orthopedic Trauma Advanced Practitioner emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention; orders, conducts and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescribes pharmacologic agents and nonpharmacological therapies.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *In collaboration with Trauma Physicians, provides clinical oversight of the advanced practitioner team, mentoring staff to assure compliance with procedures and protocols.

  1. Serves as the liaison between the APPs and the director of BPN, Bryan Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.

  1. *Assists the Program Manager with special projects.

  1. *Serves as a member of the trauma team as a leader and role model for the professional development of peers, colleagues and others.

  1. *Provides and/or assists with coordination of orientation activities for new advanced practitioners.

  1. * Conducts and/or assists with coordination of validating and revalidation of core job competencies.

  1. *Plans, coordinates and leads training and re-training sessions pulling in other resources when necessary.

  1. Conducts and/or assists with certification preparation and monitoring.

  1. Assists Program Manager with time card review and approval.

  1. Assists Program Manager to ensure provider resources are available and assists with provider scheduling and attendance tracking.

  1. Participates in local and/or regional/national NP/PA/Trauma associations with goals of developing clinical and leadership skills and knowledge.

  1. Develops and strengthens relationships with entire multidisciplinary team including other clinical APPs, medical team physicians, network providers, nursing unit managers, key decision makers, and other team members.

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

  1. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required within two (2) months of hire. Certification as Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner preferred. One (1) year of experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner and two (2) years of trauma experience required. Prior leadership experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

OR

Graduate degree from a Physician’s Assistant program required. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant required. Completion of Bryan credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required within two (2) months of hire. Integrated practice agreement with the Medical Director for Trauma as required by Nebraska State law is mandatory. One (1) year of experience as a licensed Physician Assistant and two (2) years of trauma experience required. Prior leadership experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification required within one (1) year of hire.
