Job summary

Bryan Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for Cardiothoracic Surgery to deliver perioperative and outpatient care. Responsibilities include first assisting in surgery, vein and artery harvests, chest tubes, intubation/extubation, and comprehensive patient management from ICU to outpatient clinics.

The role requires active NP or PA licensure in Nebraska (or eligible), MSN or PA degree, DEA prescriptive authority, and hospital credentialing.

Qualifications

  • Nebraska RN license or compact-state license required.
  • MSN with APP licensure and DEA prescriptive authority required; 1+ year APP experience preferred.
  • PA licensure with DEA prescriptive authority; Bryan credentialing process required; 1+ year APP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide perioperative care for Cardiothoracic Surgery patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Assist in surgery including first assisting, vein/artery harvests, chest tubes, catheters, intubation/extubation.
  • Manage inpatient rounds, orders, testing, discharges and outpatient visits as directed by physicians.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, nurses and ancillary staff; participate in educational programs for patients and staff.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the Cardiothoracic Surgery team and assist in emergencies.

Advanced Practice Provider-Cardiothoracic Surgery

Provides care to Cardiothoracic Surgery patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Performs all duties within the scope of practice for the perioperative patient including first-assisting in surgery, saphenous vein harvest and radial artery harvests, assisting with chest tubes and catheters, intubating and extubating patients, extremity wound closure, wound management systems (Wound VAC), inpatient management (patient consults, ICU/progressive care/general care rounds; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic testing, writing orders, facilitating patient discharges) and outpatient management (conducting outpatient clinic visits and follow-up as directed by physician) both locally and in outstate clinic locations.

  • *Performs inpatient management including patient consults; ICU/progressive care/general care rounds; ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic testing; writing orders; and facilitating patient discharges.

  • *Performs outpatient management to include conducting outpatient clinic visits and follow-up as directed by physicians both locally and in outstate clinic locations.

  • *Coordinates ongoing overall patient care with physician staff, nursing staff and other ancillary care providers to ensure treatment plans are implemented.

  • *Assists with surgical emergencies, evaluations and assisting trauma.

  • *Shares on-call responsibilities with Cardiothoracic Surgery team.

  • *Assists or performs bedside procedures within the scope of practice agreement under the direction of physician.

  • *Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.

  • *Plans and participates in educational programs for patients, families, medical students and hospital staff as needed. Provides workshops, seminars and presentations to other professionals.

  • *Appropriately documents patient care in the electronic medical record.

  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.

  • Triages patient telephone calls as needed, providing consultation.

  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required. Minimum of one (1) year advanced practice experience preferred.


OR


Graduate degree from a Physician's Assistant program required. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant required. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required. Completion of Bryan credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment. Certification through AAPA required. A minimum of one (1) year advanced practice experience preferred.


OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:



  • *Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

  • *Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification required within one year of hire.
