Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in Texarkana, TX is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support the surgeon during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. Under supervision, you will assist with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and patient positioning according to the surgeon's preferences and hospital policy.

Must have a high school diploma and graduate from an accredited Surgical First Assist program or equivalent credential; BLS required and CST First Assistant certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assist Program, State Board accredited Vocational School of Nursing, or Graduate of School of Surgical technology required.
• BLS required; Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant required; ACLS preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon under direct and indirect supervision throughout preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care.
• Facilitate safe patient positioning according to surgeon preference and patient limits.
• Assist with exposure, hemostasis, incision and layered closure, and use of energy sources as needed.
• Prepare implants, drains, dressings, and assist in patient transfer to recovery.
• Perform delegated duties in cooperation with surgeon and hospital policy.
