Orthopedic Surgery Coder (Contract-to-Hire | Remote in Illinois)

Position Overview:

Seeking a skilled coder with strong Orthopedic Surgery experience. This role involves a mix of coding operative notes from scratch and reviewing provider-entered codes for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Code and review Orthopedic surgical cases and consults
• Abstract from op notes or review provider-submitted codes (DX, CPT, E/M, Modifiers)
• Ensure compliance with CPT, AMA, and payer-specific guidelines
• Work on denials related to coding
• Code surgeries across specialties: Neuro, Spine, Hand, Foot/Ankle, Sports Med, Podiatry, Shoulder, Knee Replacements
• Review E/M levels for surgical consults

Requirements:

• Active AAPC or AHIMA coding certification
• Must have recent Orthopedic Surgery coding experience
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and documentation review
• Excellent communication skills with providers
• Remote position — must reside in Illinois
• Preferred: 1 week of onsite training if within reasonable distance (flexible if too far)

Logistics:

• Schedule: Monday–Friday (7 AM–5 PM preferred; flexible by 1 hour)
• Software: EPIC, Codify
• Training: Provided by department supervisor
• Pay Range (once perm): $25–$35/hr
• Start Date: ASAP
• Openings: 1
