Job summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a part-time Scribe for the Orthopedic Surgery department in Roanoke, VA. The role supports physicians by documenting patient encounters in real time using EPIC EMR and PACS imaging systems.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or equivalent, 1–2 years in healthcare, and strong typing, PC, and communication skills. This in-person position reports to the Orthopedic team and requires engagement with patients and families throughout shifts.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
• Excellent PC, typing and interpersonal/ verbal communication skills; medical terminology familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates and assists in completing physicians' medical records and patient documentation in real time.
• Accompanies a physician through patient care duties during the shift and updates the medical record.
• Reminds physician of lab/x-ray progress and transcribes results into patient charts for complete workups.
• Documents procedures performed by physicians and other healthcare professionals; may initiate referrals to consultants.
