The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon to join our residency program in McAllen, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to engage in direct patient care, contribute to scholarly activities, and maintain a professional educational environment.

Preferred candidates will have specialty training in Adult Reconstruction, Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Foot & Ankle, or Sports Medicine. The role includes administering training for residents and preparing for accreditation processes.

Qualifications

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical license and be qualified to hold a faculty appointment.
  • Experience in a GME Accredited Residency or Fellowship Program.
  • Specialty training in Orthopedic Surgery areas is preferred.

Responsibilities

Scope of Job

The UTRGV SOM seeks a Board‑Certified Orthopedic Surgeon to expand our specialty practice and serve as Core Faculty in a developing Orthopedic Residency. Candidates with Orthopedic fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction / Joint Replacement, Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Foot & Ankle, or Sports Medicine are preferred. As a Core Faculty member, the selected candidate will participate in direct patient care, scholarly activities, faculty development, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, prepare and provide didactics, participate in resident and program evaluation, and prepare for and participate in ACGME and other accreditation and non‑accreditation site visits. The core faculty member will also administer and maintain a professional educational environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competencies and assisting them to reach their individual Milestones. Academic rank and title will be awarded commensurate with academic qualifications and certification.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD degree with Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (American Board of Orthopedic Surgery) and/or specialty.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical license and be qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Surgery integrated service unit.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a GME Accredited Residency or Fellowship Program.
  • Specialty training in Adult Reconstruction / Joint Replacement, Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Foot & Ankle, or Sports Medicine.
Salary and Benefits

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and 135 days in length. Option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) if the position is 40 hours per week and 135 days in length.
