Novant Health is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Registered Nurse to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. This role provides specialized nursing care to orthopedic patients across pre- and post-operative management, pain control, mobility support, and education.

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in state of practice.
  • BSN preferred or in progress within timeframe.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or to be obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive orthopedic nursing care to patients undergoing joint replacement, fracture repair, spine surgery, and other musculoskeletal procedures.
  • Conduct thorough assessments focusing on pain, mobility, neurovascular status, and skin integrity; update plans of care.
  • Administer medications including pain management therapies; manage IV fluids as ordered.
  • Monitor vital signs, surgical sites, and post-operative status; escalate changes as needed.
  • Perform wound and dressing care; manage drains and orthopedic equipment like braces, slings, traction.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, APPs, therapists, and team to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families on pre- and post-operative expectations and device use.
  • Maintain infection control and fall prevention practices; ensure safe environment.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and education in EHR.

  • Provide comprehensive orthopedic nursing care to patients undergoing joint replacement, fracture repair, spine surgery, and other musculoskeletal procedures.
  • Conduct thorough assessments focusing on pain, mobility, neurovascular status, and skin integrity, and update individualized plans of care accordingly.
  • Administer medications, including pain management therapies, and manage IV fluids and other treatments in accordance with provider orders and protocols.
  • Monitor vital signs, surgical sites, and overall post-operative status, promptly identifying and escalating changes in condition.
  • Perform wound and dressing care, manage drains and orthopedic equipment such as braces, slings, and traction as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.
  • Educate patients and families about pre- and post-operative expectations, mobility precautions, use of assistive devices, and at-home care needs.
  • Implement and reinforce fall prevention, pressure injury prevention, and infection control practices to maintain a safe care environment.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in quality improvement, unit-based initiatives, and continuing education to enhance orthopedic nursing practice and patient outcomes.
