Job summary

OrthoVirginia is seeking a Medical Assistant to join a collaborative orthopedic care team. You will prepare exam rooms, welcome patients, obtain vital signs, and support clinicians throughout visits, surgeries, and follow-up care.

You will educate patients on cast and traction care and coordinate orders for X-rays or physical therapy. In this role, you’ll help manage patient flow, triage calls, and maintain a clean, organized clinical space while ensuring safety protocols for biohazardous

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and ensure clinical areas are ready for patients and providers.
• Welcome and room patients, obtain vital signs, and document relevant medical history and information.
• Support physicians and clinical team members with patient care throughout the visit.
• Educate patients on orthopedic care, including cast care, traction care, and the proper use of orthopedic appliances.
• Enter physician-directed orders for services such as X-rays and physical therapy.
• Coordinate follow-up appointments, post-operative visits, diagnostic studies, and other patient care needs.
• Assist with surgery scheduling, including coordinating pre-operative testing, therapy, and pre- and post-operative equipment.
• Help manage patient flow to support an efficient and positive experience for patients and providers.
• Respond to patient calls, triage questions and concerns, and help ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
• Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam, treatment, and bracing rooms.
• Follow appropriate safety procedures for the handling and disposal of sharps and biohazardous materials.
• Partner with the broader clinical team to support an exceptional patient experience.
