Job summary

Touro University in Albuquerque, New Mexico, seeks an orthodontic faculty member responsible for direct patient care and mentoring dental students within the dental college clinic.

Reporting to the Director of Orthodontics and collaborating with Clinical Education leadership, you will guide student doctor/patient interactions, supervise examinations, and maintain high standards of professionalism and patient management.

Qualifications

  • Required: DDS/DMD from CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent.
  • Required: Certificate of training and educationally qualified from an ADA-accredited specialty program.
  • Dental License Registration; must be eligible for licensure in New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction.
  • Perform dental procedures on patients of the clinic as needed.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
  • Assist in solving patient related problems.
  • Assist the Director of Orthodontics in their view of each student\u2019s performance within the orthodontic clinic.
  • Ensuring accuracy of student clinical notes, approving student procedural code, and evaluating/assessing student in the areas of Preparedness, Professionalism, & Promptness.
  • Monitor for unapproved notes of treatments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Orthodontics.
  • Maintain calibration with Director of Clinical Education; ensure infection control compliance in clinical areas.
  • Complete reviews of student activity upon request.
  • Aid in supervision of Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the Director of Orthodontics and clinical faculty meetings.
  • Participate in relevant Clinical Committees (if appointed).

Job description

Overview

Directly reporting to the Director of Orthodontics, with a dotted line to the Director of Clinical Education, and the Executive Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs, orthodontic faculty are responsible for direct patient care and mentoring/teaching students within Touro College of Dental Medicine's clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  1. Initiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction
  2. Perform dental procedures on patients of the clinic as needed
  3. Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques
  4. Assist in solving patient related problems
  5. Assist the Director of Orthodontics in their view of each student\'s performance within the orthodontic clinic
  6. Assuring accuracy of student clinical notes, approving student procedural code, and evaluating/assessing student in the areas of Preparedness, Professionalism, & Promptness
  7. Monitoring for unapproved notes of treatments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  8. Report instances of misconduct to the Director of Orthodontics
  9. Maintaining calibration as determined by the Director of Clinical Education as well as:
    • Ensuring all clinical protocols are being followed in their clinical areas
    • Infection Control Compliance
  10. Complete Reviews of student activity upon request
  11. Aid in supervision of Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process
  12. Attend periodic meetings with the Director of Orthodontics and attend clinical faculty meetings, including Faculty Forum
  13. Membership, if appointed, on relevant Clinical Committees
Qualifications
Education/Experience
  • Required Qualifications
    • D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent.
    • Certificate of training and educationally qualified from an ADA-accredited specialty program.
    • Dental License Registration; must be eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous teaching experience.
    • DEA number.
    • Board Eligible or Certified.
    • A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care, as well as demonstration of or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching/research/service.
    • Engagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • A high degree of interpersonal competency: Professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize tasks.
