Job summary

Smiles by Lorino in New Jersey is seeking an Orthodontic Clinical Assistant to support the chair, take X‑rays, and manage patient workflow. A valid New Jersey radiology license is the primary requirement, and previous ortho experience is not required as comprehensive training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, stocked rooms and support front-office patient flow.

Have your New Jersey radiology license? Great, that’s the main requirement. Never worked in an ortho office? Totally fine. We’ll teach you everything else.

Requirements

How You’ll Help

At the Chair

• Set up chairs, instruments, and materials before each patient sits down
• Support Dr. Lorino and our registered assistants with suction, retraction, isolation, passing instruments, and the curing light
• Trial-size bands and wires on study models

Records and Imaging

• Take x-rays using your New Jersey radiology license
• Take intraoral and extraoral photos
• Keep patient records complete and ready for the doctor

With Patients

• Greet patients, get them settled, and help them feel at ease
• Coach patients (and parents) on brushing around brackets, appliance care, and retainer wear
• Bring a friendly face and a calm presence to every visit

Keeping Things Running

• Clean and sterilize instruments following infection control and OSHA protocols
• Turn rooms over quickly and keep everything clean and stocked
• Keep an eye on supplies and flag what’s running low
• Team up with the front office on patient flow, and join team meetings and trainings

Room to Grow

Thinking about becoming an orthodontic assistant? Supervised experience in an orthodontic office is a key step toward New Jersey’s Limited Registered Dental Assistant in Orthodontics (LRDA-O) registration, and this role is a great place to start.

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active New Jersey Dental Radiologic Technologist license
• A sharp eye for detail and a knack for staying organized
• Comfort with a busy, fast-paced schedule
• A positive attitude and a reputation for being dependable

Bonus Points

• Dental or orthodontic office experience
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• Experience with dental imaging or practice management software

Two Ways to Join Our Team

We’re welcoming clinical support to our Long Hill and Wayne/Franklin Lakes offices, and you can choose the path that fits your life:

• Full-time across both offices. Spend Mondays and Thursdays in Long Hill, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday in Wayne/Franklin Lakes. You’ll work one office per day, four days one week and five the next.
• Part-time at one home office. Make Long Hill your home base on Mondays and Thursdays, or join our Wayne/Franklin Lakes team on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday.

Compensation

• $21–$25 per hour, depending on experience
• Paid sick leave under New Jersey’s Earned Sick Leave Law

The Fine Print

• Part-time at one office or full-time across both, always one office per day, in a clinical orthodontic setting
• Standing for extended periods
• Lifting and moving supplies up to 35 lbs
• Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
• Frequent bending, reaching, and moving around the clinic
