Job summary

Smiles by Lorino in New Jersey seeks an orthodontic assistant to support Dr. Lorino at the Long Hill and Wayne/Franklin Lakes offices.

You will set up chairs, assist on bonding, wire changes, and imaging while staying within your NJ scope of practice. Qualified candidates hold NJ RDA or LRDA-O registration, NJ Dental Radiologic Technologist license, and bring a proactive, detail-oriented, dependable attitude to a fast-paced clinical environment.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Set up chairs, instruments, and materials for each appointment.
• Assist Dr. Lorino with bonding, wire changes, adjustments, debonds, and appliance delivery.
• Take photos, impressions, and diagnostic records, within NJ scope of practice.
• Follow sterilization, infection control, and OSHA protocols.
• Coordinate with front desk on patient flow and charting.

Already know your way around brackets and wires? Wonderful. Coming from general dentistry with your RDA? Also wonderful. Bring your New Jersey registration and a great attitude, and we’ll happily teach you the orthodontic side.

Requirements

A Day in the Chair

At the Chair

• Set up chairs, instruments, and materials so every appointment starts smoothly
• Work alongside Dr. Lorino on bonding, wire changes, adjustments, debonds, and appliance delivery, within your New Jersey scope of practice
• Keep the day moving so patients spend more time smiling and less time waiting

With Patients

• Greet patients, get them settled, and make them feel at home
• Coach patients (and parents) on brushing around brackets, appliance care, and wearing retainers
• Answer questions with patience, warmth, and maybe a little humor

Records and Imaging

• Take photos, impressions, and diagnostic records
• Take x-rays using your New Jersey radiology license
• Keep patient charts and clinical notes accurate and up to date

Behind the Scenes

• Follow sterilization, infection control, and OSHA protocols
• Turn rooms over quickly and keep everything clean and stocked
• Keep an eye on supplies and flag what’s running low
• Team up with the front office on patient flow, and join team meetings, trainings, and CE

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active New Jersey Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or Limited Registered Dental Assistant in Orthodontics (LRDA-O) registration
• Active New Jersey Dental Radiologic Technologist license
• A sharp eye for detail and a knack for staying organized
• Comfort with a busy, fast-paced schedule
• A positive attitude and a reputation for being dependable

Bonus Points

• Orthodontic or dental assisting experience (great if you have it, not required)
• Familiarity with orthodontic instruments and appliances
• Experience with dental imaging and practice management software
• Current BLS/CPR certification

Two Ways to Join Our Team

We’re welcoming an orthodontic assistant to our Long Hill and Wayne/Franklin Lakes offices, and you can choose the path that fits your life:

• Full-time across both offices. Spend Mondays and Thursdays in Long Hill, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday in Wayne/Franklin Lakes. You’ll work one office per day, four days one week and five the next.
• Part-time at one home office. Make Long Hill your home base on Mondays and Thursdays, or join our Wayne/Franklin Lakes team on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday.

Compensation

• $29–$32 per hour, depending on experience
• Paid sick leave under New Jersey’s Earned Sick Leave Law

The Fine Print

• Part-time at one office or full-time across both, always one office per day, in a clinical orthodontic setting
• Standing for extended periods
• Lifting and moving supplies up to 35 lbs
• Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
• Frequent bending, reaching, and moving around the clinic
