Job summary

Flagship Pioneering in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior Associate to originate and build new science-based companies within the Pioneering Abundance initiative. You will explore biology and technology, translate strategy into plans, and lead early team efforts across IP, recruitment, and company formation.

The role blends science, strategy, and entrepreneurship, requiring independent leadership of major workstreams and collaboration with flagship teams to drive growth and value creation.

Qualifications

• PhD from a top university with expertise in plant biology, plant pathology, plant physiology, biochemistry or genetics.
• At least 4 years of relevant experience beyond doctoral training or equivalent leadership.
• Passion for novel science and operational savviness.

Responsibilities

• Lead explorations to rapidly assess areas of science and develop venture hypotheses.
• Develop experimental plans to create value and test ideas.
• Identify and engage academic KOLs and thought leaders for concept validation.
• Understand IP landscape and formulate initial strategy for technology and company.
• Develop and implement corporate strategy, goals, timelines, and resourcing for rapid growth.
• Lead and manage scientific teams and external partners.
• Stay current with literature, conferences, and funding opportunities.
