• Provide input on schedules to allocate travel training and instruction time.
• Attend meetings, respond to inquiries, and perform related duties.

Remote / Onsite: Onsite
School Year: 2026–2027
Compensation: $75.00 per hour

Caseload: 1 student, 3 sessions per quarter, 60 minutes each session, in students home.

Position Summary

RCM Healthcare Services is seeking an Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support special education students ages birth to 21 with visual and/or other impairments. This role provides specialized direct, consultative, and evaluative services to help students achieve maximum independence through safe and efficient travel within the home, school, and community. The O&M Specialist collaborates with students, families, instructional staff, and community professionals to support student goals and appropriate accommodations.

Responsibilities

Schedule / Shift

• Shift details: 1 student, 3 sessions per quarter, 60 minutes each session, in students home – sessions can be conducted any day, any time, Monday – Friday between 8am – 6pm
• Contract length: 2026–2027 School Year

Key Duties:

• Conduct orientation and mobility evaluations for new referrals and three-year reevaluations, addressing students' short- and long-term needs, including environmental orientation, safe travel techniques, sensory development, and use of low-vision devices.
• Contribute to the development of Evaluation Reports (ERs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including establishing goals and documenting student progress.
• Collaborate and consult with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, diagnosticians, ophthalmologists, optometrists, and community agencies to support appropriate accommodations and student outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and current student information, progress reports, assessment records, and required tracking data, including applicable PennData, federal quota, deaf-blind census, and textbook access information.
• Provide input into student schedules to ensure sufficient time for required instruction and travel training; register students with appropriate outside agencies to support delivery of needed services.
• Participate in meetings, respond to inquiries, prepare required written documentation, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

• Required: Bachelor's degree in a related area.

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: Certificate in Education of the Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility.
• Preferred: Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification.

Skills

• Experience providing education-related services to students with visual impairments.
• Ability to conduct orientation and mobility evaluations and provide direct and consultative services.
• Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, medical professionals, and community agencies.
• Experience Required: Job-related experience required.
