Job summary

The Organ Recovery Coordinator I (ORC I) at Texas Organ Sharing Alliance evaluates potential donor referrals, maximizes medical management, and coordinates organ recovery in collaboration with hospital staff, transplant centers, and the Medical Director as needed.

This full-time on-call role requires independent decision-making in a high-stress environment, travel as needed, and adherence to OPTN/UNOS policies to ensure donor suitability and respectful handling of donor families.

Qualifications

• RN license required.
• Medical professional certification or an Associate's degree with at least 1 year of professional/critical care experience.
• Demonstrates teamwork, clinical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a high-stress environment.

Responsibilities

• Accepts on-call responsibilities and performs referral evaluation.
• Evaluates medical suitability of potential donors using medical records, history and exams.
• Collaborates with hospital staff to develop referral management from initial referral through declaration of death or DCD evaluation.
• Identifies the patient’s legal next-of-kin in accordance with state/UAGA statutes.
• Assesses family dynamics and provides families the opportunity for donation in a sensitive and caring manner.
• Obtains UDRAI with relevant follow-up questions.
• Contacts Medical Examiner/Justice of the Peace for clearance to proceed with organ recovery.
• Shares complex donor information with transplant surgeons and coordinators.
• Ensures donated organs are allocated efficiently and per policy.
• Oversees donor management and OR workflow to ensure organ viability.
