The Order Entry Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and accurate order/data entry within a pharmacy setting. This position involves handling incoming calls and directing them appropriately, liaising with long-term care facilities, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians, and processing drug orders received through faxes and other forms. Technicians are responsible for triaging faxes by reviewing patient profiles to determine the appropriateness of orders, preparing documents by highlighting pertinent information, and entering medication orders at a rate of 40-45 per hour. The role requires handling 15-30 calls per day, addressing new admissions to LTC facilities, and resolving issues with orders by understanding the workings of the Automatic Dispensing Unit. This is a fast-paced, repetitive role that demands a high level of accuracy and memorization, with the expectation to process 200-300 orders per shift.
