Job summary

Jobtailor in New Jersey seeks an experienced draftsman/detailer to translate customer needs into detailed manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Inventor. You will read blueprints, prepare templates, and collaborate with engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities include modifying designs, creating layouts and material kits for manufacturing, and supporting internal customers while ensuring quality and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years drafting/detailing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor.
• Strong math skills (algebra, trigonometry, geometry).
• Read blueprints and interpret technical drawings.
• Diploma in Mechanical Technology or Engineering Technology preferred.

Job description

• Interpret customer requirements through various forms
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings using templates, AutoCAD-based systems, engineering guidelines, and sketches
• Modify existing product designs to meet customer needs and SDI standards
• Interpret hardware templates and prepare detailed manufacturing drawings
• Create layouts, details, and material kits for release to manufacturing
• Determine custom product components required for shop drawings
• Develop detailed drawings and anticipate installation issues
• Assist with creating, collecting, and updating hardware templates
• Provide technical and problem-solving support to Customer Service, Manufacturing, and customers
• Resolve external customer issues promptly and thoroughly
• Resolve template and drawing issues or discrepancies with internal and external customers
• Make product recommendations based on customer needs and preferences
• Process customer orders accurately, including basic stock and highly customized orders
• Take and process specialty orders
• Use the document management system
• Maintain appropriate metrics and KPIs
• Identify process-improvement opportunities that improve the internal and external customer experience

Requirements

• Diploma in Mechanical or Architectural Technology preferred
• Degree in Engineering Technology preferred; or 5 to 7 years’ experience in a similar role or industry
• Five (5+) years of drafting/detailing experience in a manufacturing environment
• Previous experience with standard drafting practices
• Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor
• Strong math skills with proficiency in Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry
• Previous experience with templates and drawings as a designer or drafter within the architectural hardware industry and/or building products strongly preferred
• Ability to read blueprints
• Experience or exposure in order processing preferred
• Understanding of metal forming equipment limitations and UL specifications desirable
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills
• Ability to interact with others, foster and maintain relationships
• Ability to work collaboratively as a dynamic team player
• Excellent customer service skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines
