Job summary

Ryerson in Minnesota is seeking an Order Assembler to join our union workforce. You will assemble material for shipment, follow order specs, and maintain safety and quality in a fast-paced environment.

This role includes a skills-based assessment, potential SAP experience, forklift/crane familiarity, and onboarding into a registered apprenticeship. Union pay starts at $30.18/hr with progression over time.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Certified fork truck experience preferred.
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks).
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Understand work order packaging specifications.
• Onboarding may include enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and orders.
• Select material from heats or for physical condition as per orders.
• Count, weigh, and record heat or test numbers and related data on orders.
• Unload, receive material, check sizes, and place into stock areas with proper documentation.
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards for each assignment.
• All other duties as assigned or may change at any time with or without notice.

As an Order Assembler at Ryerson, you will be responsible for keeping the work area safe and productive. Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as required
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $30.18. New employees hired shall receive eighty percent (80%) of the full rate for the first six months of employment, ninety percent (90%) of the rate for the next six months, and 100% of the rate after twelve months.
