Job summary

Ryerson in Milwaukee, WI, is hiring an Order Assembler in a union role. The position pays $30.18 per hour as the full rate, with 85% of that for the first six months and 90% for the next six months.

Qualifications

• Requires skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem solving.
• Forklift certification experience preferred.
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks).
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material; SAP experience preferred.
• Understand work order packaging specifications; onboarding includes apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines according to orders and specifications.
• Select material from heats or for condition per orders.
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers and lengths on orders.
• Receive and identify material, weigh, count, and place into stock areas; record information.
• Tally, stamp, sort and re-oil as required.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity on each assignment.
• All other duties as assigned or may change at any time.

As an Order Assembler at Ryerson, you will be responsible for keeping the work area safe and productive. Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as required
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Certified fork truck experience preferred

Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $30.18. New employees hired shall receive eighty-five percent (80%) of the full rate for the first six months of employment and ninety percent (90%) of the rate for the next six months.
