Job summary

Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc is seeking an Order Assembler in Milwaukee to help assemble material for shipment according to orders, select materials by heat and specifications, and maintain accuracy and efficiency in a safety-focused production environment.

This union role includes enrollment in an apprenticeship program and a skills-based onboarding assessment. The position requires forklift and crane experience, proficiency with hand tools for banding and packaging, and SAP familiarity.

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections, measurement, attention to detail and problem solving.
• Certified forklift experience preferred.
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists or hooks).
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material.
• SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines per orders.
• Select material from heats or for physical condition per orders.
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list lengths and other required information.
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, verify sizes, and place into stock.
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment.
• All other duties as assigned or may change at any time with or without notice.

As an Order Assembler at Ryerson, you will be responsible for keeping the work area safe and productive. Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as required
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Certified fork truck experience preferred
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks)
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material
• SAP experience preferred
• Understand work order packaging specifications
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding

Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $30.18. New employees hired shall receive eighty-five percent (80%) of the full rate for the first six months of employment and ninety percent (90%) of the rate for the next six months.
