Job summary

Ryerson in North Kansas City, MO is seeking an Order Assembler to maintain safe, productive work areas and fill in for absent positions as needed on a daily basis. You will assemble material for shipment or machines per orders, select materials, and ensure accurate counts and measurements.

Applicants should pass a skills-based assessment and may enroll in a registered apprenticeship during onboarding; forklift, crane, SAP experience are a plus.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• Forklift experience preferred; crane experience preferred.
• SAP experience preferred.
• Understand work order packaging specifications.
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines according to orders.
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition per orders.
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers, and list lengths as required.
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, and check sizes; place into stock areas.
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards for each assignment.
• All other duties as assigned or duties may change at any time.

As an Order Assembler at Ryerson, you will be responsible for keeping the work area safe and productive. Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as required
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Certified fork truck experience preferred
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks)
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material
• SAP experience preferred
• Understand work order packaging specifications
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
