Job summary

The San Diego Symphony seeks an Orchestra Operations Coordinator to work with musicians and staff, ensuring smooth operations under the Master Agreement. You will manage auditions, support services at performances, and handle day-to-day tasks with a small team.

Ideal candidates have a passion for classical music, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and strong computer skills including MS Office and orchestral management software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Business, or Arts Administration.
• Familiarity with orchestral repertoire and ability to read music.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Able to work regular business hours including nights and weekends.
• Valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive environment for musicians and staff, promoting communication.
• Manage rehearsals and concerts, including timekeeping and working conditions.
• Ensure activities comply with the Master Agreement and labor issues.
• Liaise between musicians, guest artists, conductors and staff.
• Prepare and distribute concert information to musicians.
• Assist in hiring substitute musicians and collect I-9s and W-4s.
• Coordinate audition process including scheduling, advertising and registration.
• Assist with musician payroll and payments.
• Manage instrument insurance for musicians.
• Coordinate travel and transportation for the orchestra.
• Hire musicians for small ensembles in collaboration with other departments.
• Support and carry out other tasks including musician requests and research.
• Provide administrative support to the negotiation of the Master Agreement.
• Support the Orchestra Personnel Manager as needed.
