Job summary

Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery is seeking an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant to join the Greater Richmond Area team. You’ll provide patient care with empathy before, during, and after procedures; assist the surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and post-op visits; take digital x-rays and models; document charts; prepare surgical trays and rooms; and maintain sterilization throughout the facility.

Qualifications

  • One year of dental assisting or surgery experience required.
  • Understanding of sterilization principles.
  • HIPAA knowledge required.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Familiar with anatomy and medical/dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care with empathy before, during, and after procedures.
  • Assist surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and post-op visits.
  • Take digital x-rays and models.
  • Document patient charts accurately during evaluations, surgical procedures, and post-op appointments.
  • Prepare surgical trays, and evaluation and surgical rooms for procedures.
  • Maintain sterilization of instruments, laboratories, and treatment rooms.
  • Complete clinical and pharmacy logs according to practice standard.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide patient care with empathy before, during, and after procedures.
  • Assist surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and post-op visits.
  • Take digital x-rays and models.
  • Document patient charts accurately during evaluations, surgical procedures, and post-op appointments.
  • Prepare surgical trays, and evaluation and surgical rooms for procedures.
  • Maintain sterilization of instruments, laboratories, and treatment rooms.

What You’ll Need:
  • One (1) year of dental assisting or surgery technical experience required; oral and maxillofacial surgery experience, preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles, required.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, required.
  • CPR certification, preferred.
  • Familiar with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
What It Takes:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with sedated patients.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
