Job summary

Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery in the Greater Richmond Area is seeking an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant to join a fast-paced team dedicated to exceptional patient care.

You’ll support the surgeon before, during, and after procedures, take digital x-rays, document charts, and help prepare rooms and sterilize instruments. The role emphasizes empathy, accuracy, and strong communication across the care team.

Qualifications

• One year of dental assisting or surgery tech experience required.
• Understanding of sterilization principles required.
• HIPAA understanding required.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Familiar with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care with empathy before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist surgeon with evaluations, surgeries, and post-op visits.
• Take digital x-rays and models.
• Document patient charts accurately during evaluations, surgical procedures, and post-op appointments.
• Prepare surgical trays, and evaluation and surgical rooms for procedures.
• Maintain sterilization of instruments, laboratories, and treatment rooms.
• Complete clinical and pharmacy logs according to practice standard.

What You’ll Do:

What You’ll Need:

• One (1) year of dental assisting or surgery technical experience required; oral and maxillofacial surgery experience preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required.
• Understanding of HIPAA required.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Familiar with anatomy and medical and dental terminology pertaining to oral surgery.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

What It Takes:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to assist with sedated patients.
• Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
