Summary:

Under the direction of the professional Registered Nurse, assists in providing optimal patient care in the Operating Room by organizing and preparing the sterile field, handling instruments, and may assist the surgeon under their direct supervision. Establishes positive relationships through effective communication, self-development, and fulfilling responsibilities as an employee at St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island.

Education:

Graduate of Surgical Technology School preferred. Five or more years of experience as an OR Tech will be considered.

Licensure:

CST or CST attainment within 6 months required, or 20 or more years of experience as an OR Tech.

Skills and Abilities:

• Skills in organization and priority setting.
• Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines.
• Effective interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, considering cultural background, linguistic skills, and age.
• Maintains confidentiality (HIPAA).
• Demonstrated customer service skills.
• Responsive customer service skills when interacting with diverse patients.
• Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment, and Safety Requirements:

Visual acuity and hand dexterity required. Physical ability involves stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, twisting, stretching, and reaching. Must be able to push, pull, and lift more than 30 lbs.
