The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic life support, and either certification as a surgical technologist or 2–3 years of relevant experience. Per diems do not guarantee hours and no medical benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and current basic life support certification.
• Certified as a surgical technologist OR two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role.
• Must scrub proficiently on a minimum of two surgical specialties.
• Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
• Must stay conscientious, organized, and able to work in highly stressful emergent situations.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling instruments and supplies and ensuring instrument functionality.
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs and passes instruments as requested.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures.
• Disposes of sharps and trash and ensures proper case cart processing.
• Assists with OR turnover and stocking of supplies.
• Participates in training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students.
• May provide business support to the department including administrative tasks.
