Job summary

Cayuga Health is seeking Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) to join the Cayuga Medical Center operative team in Ithaca, NY. You will work within a collaborative interdisciplinary environment to provide comprehensive and compassionate care, supporting the full scope of practice and contributing to program development and patient outcomes.

You will engage in procedures, maintain sterile technique, and participate in ongoing education while working onsite at the Main OR and Cayuga Orthopedic

Qualifications

• NBSTSA or NCCT certification, or LPN license required.
• Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology program, eligible for certification.
• Day shift; flexible 4–10 hour shifts; no on-call or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Maintains standards of care for the operative patient, adhering to AORN standards.
• Prepares the patient environment by stocking rooms and cleaning equipment.
• Anticipates surgeon and anesthesia needs using preference cards and assembles supplies for procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of handling supplies/equipment for surgical procedures and responds to changes during operations.
• Assists with patient positioning and follows AORN guidelines for hand scrubs, counts, and Time Out procedures.
• Identifies and mitigates safety hazards, ensuring equipment is removed/maintained as needed.
• Adheres to universal precautions and infection control techniques; supports continuing education and policy updates.

Summary: CSTs at Cayuga Medical Center are an integral part of the collaborative interdisciplinary team devoted to the delivery of comprehensive and compassionate care to the Tompkins County community. CSTs are able to practice at their full scope of practice, and have the opportunity to engage in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and services with the goal of improving patient outcomes, and execute an optimal plan of care in a shared governance environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Maintains standards of care for the operative patient, adhering to AORN standards and recommendations.
• Prepares the patient environment by stocking rooms and cleaning equipment as assigned.
• Anticipates surgeon and anesthesia needs using preference cards, collecting and assembling necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for surgical procedures, and responds appropriately to changes in patient needs during operations.
• Assists with patient positioning, preparation, and follows AORN guidelines for surgical hand scrubs, surgical counts, and Time Out procedures.
• Identifies and mitigates potential and actual safety hazards, ensuring equipment is removed from the patient area and repaired as needed.
• Adheres to universal precautions and infection control techniques, organizes tasks to meet patient care and unit needs, stays flexible to changes, and remains accountable for continuing education and policy updates.

Required Skills and Experience:

• License: NBSTSA or NCCT certification, or LPN license
• Minimum education: must be a graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology program, and eligible for certification

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Day shift, flexible 4-10 hour shifts, 5-8 hour shift, etc. No on call or weekends.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical: Repetitive use of hands and fingers, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay Range Disclosure:

• $30.00 to $43.00 per hour plus benefits
