Job summary

Cayuga Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join an interdisciplinary team at Surgicare in Ithaca on a Per Diem basis. You will assist in operating room procedures, prepare sterile supplies, and support the surgical team to ensure safe patient care.

Qualifications

• NBSTSA or NCCT certification preferred or graduate of an accredited 2-year Surgical Technology program and eligible for certification within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Standards of Care: Maintains operative care standards according to AORN guidelines.
• Preparation and Setup: Stocks rooms, cleans equipment, and prepares supplies based on surgeon and anesthesia needs.
• Surgical Support: Assists with patient positioning, surgical hand scrubs, counts, and Time Out procedures.
• Safety and Infection Control: Identifies and addresses safety hazards, follows universal precautions, and infection control protocols.
• Accountability and Flexibility: Organizes tasks to meet patient and unit needs, adapts to changes, and stays current with education and policies.

Education

NBSTSA or NCCT certification preferred

Graduate of Accredited 2-Year Surgical Technology program (AAS)

CST's at Cayuga Health play a key role in the interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive, compassionate care to the community. They practice at full scope, contributing to program development and care plans in a shared governance environment to enhance patient outcomes.

Required Skills And Experience

Physical Requirements

• Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard).
• Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers.
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require.
• Capacity to operate job-related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Location and Travel Requirements

• Onsite at Surgicare - 10 Arrow Wood
• Shift/Schedule: Per Diem, Various as Scheduled.
• 0%-5% Travel can be expected in this role

Pay Range Disclosure

• Standard Rate of $30.00 per hour to $42.02 per hour plus per diem premium based upon experience
