Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an OR/Surgical Services Technician to ensure sterilization and readiness of operating rooms and instruments, akin to a circulating nurse in human medicine.

Position involves varied hours between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and includes weekend and holiday call; rabies vaccination series and antibody titer are required with Auburn covering costs.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field with 0 years

Responsibilities

  • Assisting surgeons by retrieving needed surgical instruments and equipment from surgical supply.
  • Cleaning operating rooms between surgical cases and ensuring rooms are ready for the next case.
  • Positioning patients for surgery and performing aseptic prep of the surgical site.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms.
  • Decontamination and sterilization of instrumentation using autoclave and sterilizers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an OR/Surgical Services Technician to be responsible for ensuring surgical rooms and instruments are sterilized, equipped, and supplied appropriately. The duties of the OR/Surgical Technician position are equivalent to a circulating nurse in human medicine.

Various working hours between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and includes weekend and holiday call.

This position involves direct contact with animals susceptible to rabies. Employees in this role must complete a rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and maintain adequate rabies antibody titer (≥0.5 IU/mL) as recommended by CDC guidelines. Auburn University will cover the cost of the rabies vaccination series, periodic titer checks, and any necessary boosters.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting surgeons as needed by retrieving needed surgical instruments and equipment from surgical supply.
  • Cleaning operating rooms between surgical cases and making sure rooms are ready for the next case.
  • Positioning patients for surgery and performing aseptic prep of surgery site; and maintaining cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms.
  • Decontamination and sterilization of instrumentation using an autoclave and a vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer.
  • Maintenance of surgical packs and instruments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Level I:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices
OR
  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 0 years of Surgical Services or Practices
Level II:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of Surgical Services or Practices
OR
  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices
Level III:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of Surgical Services or Practices
OR
  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 2 years of Surgical Services or Practices
Desired Qualifications
  • CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician
  • CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in surgical services practices.
