Job summary

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an OR/Surgical Services Technician to ensure surgical rooms and instruments are sterilized, equipped, and supplied appropriately. Duties mirror a circulating nurse in human medicine, including patient positioning and aseptic prep.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices
  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field
  • Level II/III require more years of Surgical Services or Practices per job posting

Responsibilities

  • Assisting surgeons as needed by retrieving needed surgical instruments and equipment from surgical supply
  • Cleaning operating rooms between surgical cases and making sure rooms are ready for the next case
  • Positioning patients for surgery and performing aseptic prep of surgery site; and maintaining cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms
  • Decontamination and sterilization of instrumentation using an autoclave and a vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer
  • Maintenance of surgical packs and instruments
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seekingapplicants for an OR/Surgical Services Technician to beresponsible for ensuring surgical rooms and instruments aresterilized, equipped, and supplied appropriately. The duties of theOR/Surgical Technician position are equivalent to a circulatingnurse in human medicine.

Working Hours

Various working hours between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and includesweekend and holiday call

This position involves direct contact with animals susceptibleto rabies. Employees in this role must complete a rabiespre-exposure vaccination series and maintain adequate rabiesantibody titer (≥0.5 IU/mL) as recommended by CDC guidelines.Auburn University will cover the cost of the rabies vaccinationseries, periodic titer checks, and any necessaryboosters.

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of SurgicalServices or Practices

  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate SurgicalTechnology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices
Level III:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of SurgicalServices or Practices

OR

  • Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate SurgicalTechnology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 2 years of Surgical Services or Practices
Desired Qualifications
  • CRCST - Certified and Registered Central ServiceTechnician
  • CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in surgical services practices.
