Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an OR Surgical Instrument Coordinator at Clara Maass Medical Center. You will support surgical teams by processing, organizing, and sterilizing instruments, maintaining documentation, and ensuring infection control.

This role emphasizes accurate handling of trays, collaboration with OR staff, and adherence to safety standards. The position offers an evening, full-time schedule with competitive pay.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a current Sterile Processing certification required upon hire.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience processing surgical instruments with knowledge of steam/gas plasma sterilization and OR instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Process, organize, and maintain critical supplies and equipment for OR, SDS, and other departments.
• Identify, assemble, package, wrap, and sterilize reusable instruments and trays with high accuracy.
• Operate, test, and maintain sterilizers, washers, and sonic cleaners and report malfunctions.
• Maintain documentation for cleaning, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and QA testing.
• Coordinate with vendors to record loaner trays entering and exiting SPD/OR.
• Communicate proactively with OR staff, physicians, and nursing for instrument needs.
• Assist with updating surgical preference cards and case carts.
• Handle telephone inquiries and urgent requests with care and confidentiality.
• Adhere to cross-contamination protocols and department cleanliness standards.
