Responsibilities

• Plan and prioritize daily activities to support surgical services.
• Organize workload to complete responsibilities within the assigned work schedule.

• Retrieve and replace department supplies and equipment as needed.
• Stock routine supplies adequately.
• Pull surgical supplies and sterile instruments for case carts in preparation for the day.
• Move case carts to the OR with required equipment and set up the OR suite per surgeon preference.
• Clean surgical rooms, furniture, and equipment after each case.
• Transport used instruments to sterile processing after cases.
• Prepare surgical rooms for the next case according to surgeon preferences.
• Check emergency cart supplies and instruments per policy.
• Clean and organize storage areas; notify staff of damaged equipment.
• Follow safety policies and procedures and maintain sterile techniques.

Job description

Essential Functions

• Plan and prioritize daily activities needed to support surgical services.
• Organize workload to complete responsibilities within assigned work schedule.
• Demonstrate efficient use of downtime.
• Knowledgeable of where department supplies and equipment are stored and can retrieve and replace accordingly.
• Adequately stocks routine supplies.
• Pull surgical supplies from materials department as well as sterile surgical instruments to complete surgery case carts in preparation for the day.
• Moves case carts to the OR with required equipment for surgery and sets up the OR suite according to surgeon preference.
• Clean surgical rooms, furniture, and equipment after each surgical case.
• Transport used surgical instruments via case carts to the sterile processing department after surgical case is completed.
• Prepare surgical rooms for the next surgical case in accordance with the surgeon preference card.
• Transport sterile surgical instruments from the sterile processing department to the OR instrument storage room and OR suites as needed, utilizing the instruments scanning/tracking technology.
• Checks emergency cart for correct supplies and instruments in accordance with the surgeon call schedule and department policy.
• Clean and organize the equipment storage areas on a routine basis.
• Notify nursing staff of any broken or damaged equipment.
• Follows and understands instructions, seeks clarification of duties when needed.
• Identify safety concerns and actively seek to resolve these issues.
• Consistently communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
• Has knowledge of and follows basic sterile techniques.
• Must be responsible for job knowledge and abilities including understanding and applying policies and procedures related to assigned tasks in the surgical department such as transporting patients, cleaning and safety.
