Under the supervision of the Office Manager, this position is responsible for scheduling surgeries for assigned physicians and overseeing all surgery scheduling. Responsibilities include coordinating surgical procedures with physician offices, scheduling cases in EMR and maintaining templates (block schedule), developing surgery consents and patient folders, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries. This individual works closely with patients, physicians, and office schedulers to provide accurate, timely, and responsive scheduling procedures. The surgery scheduler will be cross trained on the front desk as well as insurance verification.

Primary Job Functions
  • Scheduling of surgical cases, consent preparation, surgical block maintenance
  • Communication with surgeon’s offices and verification of patient records, correct CPT codes, correct surgical procedures, coordinates and communicates changes to existing schedule with appropriate departments/staff and makes adjustments to ensure maximum utilization of rooms and equipment.
  • Front desk duties – patient registration, collection of payments
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED or Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in healthcare setting
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in surgery scheduling
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to utilize electronic medical record system(s)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • A thorough understanding and knowledge of medical terminology, different surgery types, CPT codes, medical equipment
License Or Certifications
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification must be obtained within 30-days of hire.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
