University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is seeking a Surgical Scheduler to coordinate operative cases across physician offices and hospital departments. You will enter patient and procedure data, build the EPIC-based schedule, and ensure accuracy for daily block utilization.

Responsibilities include cross-department coordination, data accuracy, and participation in scheduling meetings while upholding HIPAA standards and patient confidentiality at all times. Some travel may be required.

Formación

• Completion of medical terminology test with a passing score of 80%.
• Strong understanding of ICD 9 and ICD 10 codes.
• Strong communication skills and computer proficiency.
• Knowledge of EPIC scheduling system.
• Self-confident and self-directed work style.

Responsabilidades

• Coordinate with supply chain for special case needs.
• Schedule cases with limited supply awareness to avoid conflicts.
• Participate in monthly surgery scheduling meetings.
• Assign ICD-10 codes to diagnoses accurately.
• Travel to physician offices to support scheduling needs.
• Run reports as needed.
• Cross-trained to cover Surgical Department Health Unit Coordinator duties.
• Maintain HIPAA privacy and confidentiality in all activities.

Purpose:
Schedules all surgeries requested by physicians and physician offices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Schedules surgical procedures through physician offices and inter-hospital departments such as: radiology, oncology, centralscheduling.
• Accurate data entry of patient information, surgical procedure, special needs: such as equipment and implants
• Daily review of schedule for accuracy and updates and adjusts accordingly
• Entering physician block schedules and building the surgery schedule in EPIC
• Efficient scheduling for block utilization
• Work closely with supply chain to notify them of special needs for case
• Schedule cases with knowledge of limited supply listto prevent conflicts
• Active participant in monthly surgery scheduling meetings
• Accuracy in assigning ICD 10 codes to diagnosis
• May need to travel to physician offices to assist with meeting scheduling expectation/needs
• Runs reports as needed
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Will be cross trained in the Surgical Department Health Unit Coordinator role and provide coverage, as needed.

• Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, physician provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPPA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPPA Privacy and Security Procedures.
• Follow established HIPPA Privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.
• Maintains and protects patients’ rights under the HIPPA Privacy Standards

Work Experience 6 months experience with surgery scheduling

Education Preferred - Associate degree in health care related field

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Completion of medical terminology test with a passing score of 80%

• Knowledge of EPIC
• Must be self-confident and self-directed
