Job summary

TriCities Hospital is seeking an OR RN to join our Operating Room team. You will evaluate patients before surgery, educate families, and assist with preoperative medications and site verification in a fast-paced environment.

You will work with a dynamic interdisciplinary team, applying the nursing process and evidence-based practice to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. On-call may be required for select non-business hours.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current RN Virginia license or compact multistate license.
• ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• BLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• PALS must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• One year of Operating Room experience required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patients, including intravenous therapy and preoperative medications, and verify surgical site.
• Participate in surgical site verification, briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team.
• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor during shift, and document changes thoroughly.
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, and follow-up.
