Qualifications

• BSN preferred; ADN acceptable with commitment to complete BSN within 5 years of hire
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum of 1 year of operating room circulating experience
• Clinical expertise in sterile technique, infection control, and patient safety protocols
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs in a fast-paced, specialized environment
• Strong communication and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary circulating nurse, coordinating all aspects of patient care throughout surgical procedures while maintaining sterile technique and safety protocols
• Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including patient history review, verification of informed consent, and communication of pertinent information to the surgical team
• Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly organized, functional, and readily accessible
• Advocate for patient safety by implementing infection control measures, verifying surgical site markings, and ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission standards and hospital policies
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other team members to anticipate needs and coordinate seamless case flow
• Document accurate and timely nursing notes, including patient responses, medications administered, specimens collected, and any intraoperative complications or variances
• Provide compassionate patient and family education regarding surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, and discharge instructions
• Identify and implement solutions to address variances from expected patient outcomes and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
