Job summary

Doctors United Surgery Center in Houston, TX seeks an experienced OR nurse supervisor to oversee OR staff and ensure smooth case flow. You will coordinate scheduling, lead monthly staff meetings, and liaison with physicians to resolve issues.

Responsibilities include instrument ordering, inventory control, staff education, and participation in policy updates. The role involves annual evaluations, hire/orient tasks, and Joint Commission readiness across OR, radiology, and anesthesia disciplines.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited nursing program.
• Baccalaureate degree preferred or work related experience.
• Three years experience in surgery.
• Current Texas RN license.
• BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required.
• CNOR preferred.
• Independent decision making skills.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects.
• Excellent communication with staff, physicians, patients, families and vendors.
• Knowledge of hospital policies and OR procedures.
• Clinically proficient in OR nursing across age groups.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the OR staff to provide a daily smooth flow of cases.
• Assists in coordination of daily case scheduling in the OR with other staff to ensure smooth flow (OR & X-Ray).
• Prepares monthly call schedules.
• Coordinate and perform monthly OR staff meetings for OR, radiology, and anesthesia techs.
• Communicate effectively with physicians to resolve issues and improve efficiency.
• Orders instruments and equipment for cases.
• Coordinate inventory quarterly in all areas of the OR.
• Assist with OR education by coordinating and/or giving in-services.
• Prepare schedules for the next day.
• Supervise the evening shift including radiology coordination for case completions and setup for the next day.
• Coordinate repairs or ordering to resolve equipment issues with physicians.
• Coordinate with vendors for supplies, equipment, or instruments.
• Work with Materials and Sterile Processing on supplies and instrument needs.
• Prepare and administer annual evaluations.
• Assist manager with hiring and orienting OR staff.
• Help revise policies related to OR functions.
• Assist in Joint Commission compliance.
• Enter data into EDGE, MIDAS, and Kronos systems.
• Assist with staff counseling as necessary.
• Coordinate and assist in Performance Improvement Projects.

Qualifications
