Job summary

North Olympic Healthcare Network seeks an Optometry Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative for Eastside Health Center in Port Angeles, WA. You will handle patient intake, assist with eye exams preparation, perform preliminary testing, and support the ophthalmology team to deliver a patient-centered experience.

You will register patients, verify insurance in the EHR, collect copays, schedule appointments, and maintain exam room cleanliness.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Graduate or GED.
  • Customer service / medical service experience a plus.
  • Bi-lingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Answers phone calls and registers new patients.
  • Verifies patient data and insurance in the EHR; updates as needed.
  • Assists patients with questions and directs them to clinic resources.
  • Greets and checks in patients and visitors; collects copays.

Job Details: Job Location: Eastside Health Center - PORT ANGELES, WA 98362, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $21.85 - $25.16 Hourly, Job Title: Optometry Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative

Department: Vision

Reports To: Clinic Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Perform day-to-day functions of the clinics Eyecare department. Assisting with patient intake, preliminary testing and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations, a welcoming environment and excellent patient experiences while exemplifying a patient-centered service demeanor.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Answers phone calls
  • Registers new patients
  • Verifies patient data/insurance information in Electronic Health Record (EHR) and update when needed
  • Acts as a liaison between patients and Optometrist(s) to assure patient continuity of care
  • Assists patients with questions and helps direct them to the proper clinic resources
  • Greets and checks in all patients and visitors.
  • Collects payment for services (i.e.) copays
  • Monitors patient wait times and notifies patients of delays
  • Prepare patients for eye exams and procedures
  • Performs threshold visual field exams, OCT scans and Retinal Photographs
  • Record patient medical histories and update electronic health records (EHR)
  • Perform preliminary vision tests (e.g., visual acuity, tonometry, autorefraction)
  • Assist with contact lens fittings and patient education
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and equipment
  • Schedule appointments (initial and follow up) and manage patient flow
  • Support optometrists during procedures and follow-up care
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic protocols
  • Assist Pediatric Medicaid patients in selecting frames
  • Order and dispense eyewear to Pediatric Medicaid patients
  • Perform adjustments and minor repairs to eyewear for Pediatric Medicaid patients

Qualifications

Education: High School Graduate or GED Equivalent. Minimum experience required. Previous experience in customer service / medical service, a plus.

Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality are expected and required.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to walk intermittently for 8 hours.
  • Some standing, sitting, bending, occasional lifting.
  • Use hands and fingers to continually manipulate a keyboard.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate and hear.
  • Viewing the computer for 8 hours.
