UT Southwestern Medical Center's Department of Ophthalmology is seeking an Optometrist to join our academic eye care team in Dallas. You will collaborate with ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive medical eye care and manage a broad spectrum of ocular diseases in an academic setting.

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Optometry (OD) and a Texas optometry license (or eligibility). Residency training in ocular disease is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive medical eye examinations and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of ocular diseases including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, ocular surface disease, corneal, retinal, neuro-ophthalmic conditions.
  • Evaluate and manage urgent and same-day ophthalmic referrals.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care for ophthalmic surgical patients.
  • Order, perform, and interpret ophthalmic diagnostic testing including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, pachymetry, corneal topography.

Job description

The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Optometrist to join our academic eye care team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive medical eye care, evaluate and manage patients with a broad spectrum of ocular diseases, and provide preoperative and postoperative ophthalmic care. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a multidisciplinary academic environment while contributing to the department's missions of patient care, education, and research.

Candidates must possess a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited program. A Texas optometry license (or eligibility for licensure) is required. Residency training in ocular disease or equivalent clinical experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Medical Management
  • Perform comprehensive medical eye examinations and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of ocular diseases, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, ocular surface disease, corneal disorders, retinal disease, neuro-ophthalmic conditions, and other anterior and posterior segment disorders within the scope of optometric practice.
  • Evaluate and manage urgent and same-day ophthalmic referrals.
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care for ophthalmic surgical patients.
  • Order, perform, and interpret ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, pachymetry, corneal topography, and other ancillary testing as appropriate.
