Riverland Community Health is a Federally-Qualified Health Center in St. Paul, where patients receive community-based Family Practice medical care in addition to mental health, dentistry, social work and other integrated services. JOB SUMMARY

The Optometrist supports the Clinical department by practicing full-scope optometry and providing the highest quality of preventative, therapeutic, and refractive vision care. In addition, this position will support practice growth by establishing patient relationships and education to the patient on eyecare. This position is part-time for a minimum of two clinical days/week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Evaluates patients’ ocular health and visual capabilities to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
  • Promotes and utilizes clinical technologies including: iLux, Oculus Keratograph 5M, Diopsys Vision Testing System, and Optos Optomap; additional technologies for complete dry eye treatment and myopia management programs will be invested in for the practice in the near future.
  • Proficiently utilizes diagnostic instrumentation including: Humphrey VFA3, Auto-Refractor/Keratometer, iCare Tonometer, Cirrus OCT, Pachymeter, and IOL Master.
  • Provides in-depth, understandable patient education as it relates to patient’s presenting condition, diagnosis, and any recommended treatments.
  • Prepares and maintains thorough, appropriate records relating to all professional services, recommendations, and/or treatments rendered.
  • Attends to all reporting, referral, authorization, claims requests, and correspondence, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with employees across the organization to provide the highest standard of optical care and services.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all pertinent patient care information in alignment with HIPAA standards.
  • Establishes and exemplifies personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Riverland Community Health.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of current Optometric technology and practices.
  • Interface clinical and administrative decision-making processes to achieve RCH patient centered goals and objectives, using advanced problem solving, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in determining solutions to challenges and barriers.
  • Ability to self-direct and provide quality patient care within scheduling parameters.
  • Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of others on the health care team.
  • Demonstrate highest-level medical, administrative and ethical practices toward the achievement of RCH priorities as a Federally Qualified Health Care Center.
  • Ability to manage clinical and administrative performance toward priority goals and objectives.
  • Ability to interface clinic and administrative activities toward patient centered care and delivery.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Doctoral Degree in Optometry is required.
  • 2 years Current OD experience is required.
  • Residency Trained in Ocular Disease and/or Pediatrics is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Current MN Licensure is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This position is largely sedentary, requiring 6-8 hour long periods of intermittent sitting, standing, walking, and sporadic movement throughout the clinic.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a clinic office environment. Contact with staff, patients and outside agencies. Possible exposure to communicable disease and medical preparations common to clinic environment.

The salary for this position is $60 to $90/hour DOE.
