Job Description

Under the supervision of, and in conjunction with an Ophthalmologist, diagnoses and treats eye movement disorders and associated sensory deficiencies.

Job Responsibilities

• Evaluates and diagnoses ocular motility disorders, performs specialized eye tests to assess visual acuity, focusing ability, eye movement (strabismus measurements), binocular function, and color vision, using ophthalmic instruments.
• Provides education to ophthalmic technicians, residents, medical students, and other physicians regarding sensorimotor evaluation and treatment of sensorimotor disorders.
• Assists Pediatric Ophthalmologists with clinical evaluation of patients.
• Conducts medical and ophthalmic history-taking, reviews systems, and summarizes chief complaints.
• Detects eye disorders in children and adults that impair normal vision.
• Consults with physicians regarding treatments, including exercises and techniques to control eye movements.
• Uses special lenses, filters, prisms, and instruments to help patients correct vision.
• Performs related duties as required; all responsibilities here are considered essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry degree required.
• Current license to practice as a Licensed Optometrist in New York State required, along with any specialized certifications.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience required.
