Job summary

Central Neighborhood Health Foundation seeks an Optometric Technician/Optical Assistant to support the Optometry Department and staff. The role blends clinical, administrative, and patient-service duties to deliver a welcoming, efficient, and high-quality patient experience throughout visits.

The technician performs testing, prepares exam rooms, assists with eyewear orders, and maintains equipment and inventory while ensuring infection control and patient privacy standards are upheld.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Minimum 1 year experience in optometry, ophthalmology, optical or related healthcare setting.
• Experience with EMR/EHR systems and accurate patient documentation.
• Experience with preliminary testing and optical dispensing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary and diagnostic testing before optometrist exam.
• Conduct ancillary testing such as OCT and visual field testing as directed.
• Document patient history and medications in medical records.
• Prepare patients, explain procedures, and aid during examinations.
• Assist optometrist during exams and maintain exam rooms and equipment.
• Communicate abnormal results and concerns to clinicians promptly.
• Enter and maintain patient data in EMR/EHR and ensure accuracy.
• Manage optical areas, inventory, and eyewear orders workflow.
• Disinfect rooms and equipment between patients per protocols.
• Support front-office and back-office operations and patient flow.
• Travel between locations as needed and uphold HIPAA/privacy standards.
