Job summary

Woodlands Eye Associates in The Woodlands, TX is seeking an Optometric Technician I to support optometrists with pre-screening tests, patient histories, and exam assistance.

This role offers a starting wage of $18-$20 per hour with full benefits, Monday–Friday hours, and opportunities to train on EMR systems, ICD-10 coding, and diagnostic equipment.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of customer service experience (optometric or medical a plus)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong multitasking and organizational abilities in a fast-paced setting
• Team player with a growth mindset and eagerness to learn
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documenting patient information
• Basic knowledge of ICD-10 coding
• Experience with diagnostic testing equipment (Visual Fields, OCT, Pachymetry and Fundus Photography)
• Ability to perform preliminary testing (acuity, auto-refraction, Tonometry, Pupillary assessment)

Responsibilities

• Support optometrists by performing pre-screening tests and assisting with exams
• Collect patient medical histories and explain vision benefits clearly
• Train patients on contact lens use and care
• Verify insurance, schedule appointments, and maintain patient communication

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Support optometrists by performing pre-screening tests and assisting with exams
• Collect patient medical histories and explain vision benefits clearly and confidently
• Train patients on contact lens use and care
• Verify insurance, schedule appointments, and keep communication flowing smoothly
• Help coordinate patient flow and contribute to a seamless, high-quality experience

What We’re Looking For:

• 1+ year of customer service experience (optometric or medical experience is a plus!)

• Flexibility and a proactive attitude toward supporting team success
• Knowledge of basic eye anatomy. vision testing procedures, ophthalmic terminology.
• Experience with Electronic Records System ( EMR ) and patient documentation.
• Commitment to maintaining dependable attendance.
• Basic knowledge of ICD 10 coding.
• Experience with diagnostic testing equipment (Visual Fields, OCT, Pachymetry and Fundus Photography)
• The ability to perform preliminary testing, such as acuity, auto- refraction, Tonometry, Pupillary assessment, Extraocular motility testing
