Job summary

Hero Practice Services in Santa Fe, NM is seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and assist with eyewear fittings. Reports to Lead Optometric Assistant. Pay up to $25/hr with bonus opportunities.

Responsibilities include supporting eye exams, managing patient flow, handling payments, and maintaining a clean, welcoming office environment for underserved communities.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a vision practice is a plus.
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks.
• Proficiency in EHR systems.
• Ability to train and lead a team of Optometric Assistants.
• Ability to multitask and complete tasks correctly and on time.
• Knowledge of optometric software/databases like Intero, Google Docs, and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Understand and ensure smooth office processes including coding, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation.
• Call patients for appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no-shows, and recalls.
• Assist optometrists during eye exams by preparing patients, performing pre-tests, and recording results.
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test and assist the optometrist with glasses fitting.
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, and pupil checks; administer dilation drops.
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions.
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out.
• Keep the practice clean and presentable, including restrooms and lobby.
• Participate in other duties supporting high-quality dental/vision/orthodontic services.

Position Overview

Adventure Dental, Vision and Orthodontics in Santa Fe, NM are currently seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and help with eyewear fittings. This position will report to the Lead Optometric Assistant.

Pay range: UP to $25/hr (AND BONUS OPPORTUNITY)

Job Responsibilities

• Understand, monitor, and ensure the smooth execution of office processes, including coding and optometric materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation
• Call patients regarding appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no shows, and recalls
• Support optometrists during eye exams by preparing patient, performing initial pre-tests, and recording results
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test the patient and assist Optometrist in scribing and finding a good fit for glasses
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, confrontations, pupils, ICT, and administer dilation drops
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out
• Ensure practice is clean and presentable to patients to include cleaning restrooms, patient lobby, mopping, vacuuming, dusting etc.
• Participate in other duties that support the mission of providing high-quality and compassionate dental, vision, and orthodontic services to underserved children

Job Qualifications
