Job summary

Optometry Care in JBLM area is seeking an Optometric Assistant to join a small, dedicated team. The role involves scheduling, pre-testing, and assisting with eye exams and diagnostics in a patient-first environment.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of optometric tech experience or will be trained, is comfortable with exam software, and is organized and reliable. Base access is not required, with access arranged if selected.

Qualifications

• Has 1–2 years of experience as an optometric technician (preferred) or willingness to train
• Comfortable using optometric equipment and exam software
• Strong communicator with a passion for patient care
• Organized, reliable and a team player
• High school diploma (or equivalent)

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments and verify insurance
• Perform pre-testing and collect patient history
• Assist doctor with eye exams and diagnostic testing
• Train patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
• Maintain exam rooms, equipment and supplies
• Support smooth patient flow throughout the day
• Handle administrative office tasks

About the Role:

We’re on the lookout for a detail-oriented and dependable Optometric Assistant to join our small, dedicated team at Optometry Care! Our clinic is located inside the Exchange at Joint Base Lewis McChord where we provide full-scope primary eye care to a wonderful military community. Base access is not required. If you’re selected as a good fit for the role, we will arrange access for you.

This is a long-term position with opportunities to grow.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Scheduling Appointments, Verifying Insurance
• Performing pre-testing and gathering patient history
• Assisting the doctor with eye exams and diagnostic testing (like visual fields, OCT, fundus photos, etc.)
• Training patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
• Maintaining exam rooms, equipment, and supplies
• Supporting smooth patient flow throughout the day
• Administrative Office Tasks

Schedule:

• 3-4 days a week, including some Saturdays

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

1. Has at least 1–2 years of experience as an optometric technician (preferred, but will train the right candidate)
2. Is comfortable using optometric equipment and exam software
3. Is a strong communicator with a passion for patient care
4. Is organized, reliable, and a team player
5. Has a high school diploma (or equivalent)
